If you’re feeling a little down in the dumps, unmotivated, or like something just isn’t right, you might be in need of a few good daily habits. Sometimes, all it takes to transform that daily sludge into a daily journey is to make little changes to your day. Even the smallest of changes have the potential to make a big difference and a positive impact in your life.
Here are a few things to consider for any person who’s currently sludging away.
Knowing what’s important.
Writing down your goals, priorities, and accomplishments can turn out to be far more inspirational than any good speech, or motivational quote ever could be. Realizing you have goals and that you’ve done things with your day, your week, or the last year of your life to actively work towards these goals can give a person some serious fuzzies. It reasserts what’s important and that there’s always something to work towards. Try to assess what you’ve done and what you’re doing at the beginning or end of each day.
Waking up earlier.
It might feel really nice at first to sleep in, but after the feeling wears off, you’re left with the looming fact that a huge chunk of your day and a pretty significant portion of daylight is gone, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Wake up a little earlier each day and feel the positive and lasting effects.
Drinking more water.
Believe it or not, some people go the entire day without drinking one glass of water. Instead, they choose to fill their bodies with coffee, soda, tea, alcohol, and anything else that doesn’t look like it occurred naturally. And while the point of this tip isn’t to get you away from all those deliciously sweetened and perfectly fermented beverages, it is to get you to drink more water. Whether that’s one cup, two cups, or five cups, it’s up to you.
Getting yourself ready.
It’s ridiculously easy to fall into the pattern of not getting ready for the day. You do it once, and nobody says anything… so you do it again, and again, and again. And pretty soon, you never get ready in the morning. Your clothes are wrinkled and old, your hair is barely brushed, and you’re never quite sure if you have deodorant on or not. And while this can be pleasant for you at first, as the days go on, there’s a chance you’ll start to subconsciously think less of yourself. Maybe you’re not as confident as you were before, or maybe you’re not as on-the-go as you once were. So while it’s perfectly acceptable to streamline your personal grooming processes, it’s not okay to sidestep them altogether – and this is for yourself, not for others.
Eating something good.
Much like the whole forgetting-to-drink-water thing, a large number of people go the entire day without picking up one fruit or vegetable. However, this being said, even if you don’t care about looking like a professional bodybuilder or feeling like a 20-year-old-50-year-old, you probably do care about how you feel throughout the day. You’d be surprised how much better your body will feel after eating even one banana or spreading a few slices of avocado onto your sandwich.
